Stuffed olives is an appetizer that brings a touch of class to your feast. It is a staple in any fancy restaurant either as an appetizer or served with a cocktail, salad or entree. Including this on your next feast will bring a certain sophistication to the gathering.
Serving olives straight from the bottle as an appetizer is fine, but you can kick it up a notch to impress any guest with just a few simple steps. Fried Cheese Stuffed Olives is an authentic Italian appetizer that originated from the southern part of Italy in the regions of Lombardia and Veneto. Following these simple steps will allow you to bring the taste of southern Italy into your home.
You will need these items for your authentic dish.
One and a half pounds of store-bought cheese stuffed olives (but if you can get fresh cheese stuffed olives it will make this dish more flavourful)
Two medium sized eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup of flour
1/2 a cup of any type of breadcrumbs (if you are the crunchy type, you can use panlo breadcrumbs)
1/2 cup Light Olive Oil, for frying (you can substitute it with vegetable oil for economical purposes)
Drain and wash olives with cool water, then leave them to dry on a paper towel. Fix the ingredients in the right order so you can work systematically. Put the breadcrumbs, eggs, and flour in separate containers but arrange them side by side with the breadcrumbs closest to the heat source and the flour farthest away. When the olives are dry, roll them in your flour until they are well coated. From the flour, transfer your olives to the container beside it which should be the lightly beaten eggs. Then roll them in the breadcrumbs making sure that they are evenly coated. Make sure your oil is hot before frying them so that the breadcrumbs dont take in too much oil. Fry them over medium heat until golden brown being careful not to burn your coating. Remove from heat and allow to rest on a paper towel to get rid of excess oil. You can add a side of tomato sauce for dipping. Fried Cheese Stuffed Olives is one appetizer your guests will surely love.
