Healthcare has always been one of the costliest needs to meet with in our daily lives. But it is indispensable too. And with each day it is becoming more and more expensive. With rising healthcare cost, health insurance is becoming expensive too. As a result most people today are on the look out for cheap health insurance. Here are some clues to get affordable medical insurance.
There are some affordable health insurance plans. They are Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), and Point-of-Service plans (POSs). Let us see each of the in details.
HMOs are the least expensive of all the health insurance plans. Under this scheme you are provided healthcare treatment through a network of doctors, clinics and hospitals. Under this medical insurance plan you pay nominal fees for visiting a doctor. This is called by the name of copayment. The best part of this health insurance plan is that you do not have to fill a series of forms as you normally do incase of the traditional plans. Moreover, you do not have any deductibles to pay.
Under HMO health insurance scheme, you will visit the primary doctor in the network, incase you are sick. The primary doctor, here, is also known as the gatekeeper. He will treat you if the illness is within his curing capacity. Otherwise he will refer you to a specialist. This insurance plan will not be applicable if you visit a doctor outside the network.
The next in the line are the PPOs. They are costlier compared to the HMOs, but they are cost?effective in comparison to the traditional health insurance plans. Their cost and popularity is on account of the flexibility they offer. They too provide health care through a network of health providers.
Like HMOS, here too you make copayment for visiting a doctor. You need not the sit and fill a bunch of forms as you usually do in traditional medical insurance plans. Unlike HMO you need not necessarily visit a primary doctor or the gatekeeper when you are sick. You can consult a specialist directly.
POSs too are health insurance plans available at competitive prices. However, they are costlier than HMOs and PPOs. They offer the highest flexibility of the three medical insurance plans. The also provide treatment through a network of doctors. But you have the option to visit a doctor of your choice. The copayment for visiting a doctor with in the network is same as HMOs and PPOs. But if you visit a doctor outside the loop then you will be reimbursed 80 % of the total expense. This is after you pay the deductible.
The last but not the least is getting the cheap health insurance quotes. The best way to get them is to log on to health insurance websites. Here you will get quotes from various health insurance companies. You can compare them and settle on the suitable one based on your budget and requirements. On these websites, you might also get an expert who you can chat with to clarify your queries. He can also direct you towards the right insurance plan according to your financial situation and needs.
