As an iPhone owner, it’s difficult not to spend most of your waking hours thinking about what could go wrong with your phone. Theft is a big concern, as is accidental damage, especially water damage which seems to have claimed the lives of all too many iPhones.

The easy solution, as opposed to being super-careful, is to take out a mobile phone insurance policy for your phone. While being careful is cheaper, it isn’t such an amazing safeguard, and can’t protect you against things that are outside of your control, for example theft.

In the UK – and in most parts of the world – theft is a major problem for iPhone owners and a major reason for iPhone insurance claims. In fact one of the most common claims for iPhone theft is having your phone stolen whilst texting.

So if you are thinking about getting your phone insured, how do you go about it? If you have a home insurance policy already it is worth seeing if your phone is already covered under that. Some home contents insurance policies cover mobile phones against some forms of damage and loss, although most are naturally not as extensive as a specialist mobile phone insurance policy.

If you are deciding to directly get your phone insured, through a gadget or possessions insurance policy, as opposed to your home contents cover, then it is worth spending a little time on the research in order to get the very best deal.

There are a growing number of insurance, including specialist iPhone, insurance websites. These websites are reviewed by insurance experts and very often include reviews from current and previous customers of the websites.

Many of these websites will also include a static or dynamic table which will allow you to compare costs and features across all of the different insurance products from all of the suppliers. This is a great way to find which products are the best in a matter of seconds, before checking out the reviews and deciding which company to go with.

So what should you look for in a premium? Most policies include cover against theft and damage, while a select few will include cover against water damage as well. If you are planning on going on holidays – and want to take your phone with you – then look out for policies with international cover as well, bearing in mind this will usually be for a fixed period of time, usually around 60 days.
